Skill: Intensity
Drill: Louder and Louder
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Several to monitor
Description: In this drill the students will work on their intensity by performing stronger and louder than the line in front of them.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the line in front of them is louder than them, then the team who was quieter has to do five pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students must hear the team that go before them, and judge how loud they are, and determine how loud they will have to be in order to beat them. This works on their ability to analyze what is heard.
Step 1
Line up your students into several even lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
All students will start in a middle stance with a right punch.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first line will punch and yell as loud as possible.
  • The second line will punch and yell even louder, and so forth.
  • Continue until each line has a turn to punch and yell louder than the line in front of them.
  • On the second round, rotate the back line to the front of the deck and have the rest of the lines rotate back.
  • You can make it a contest and the entire line do push-ups if they do not yell and punch with more intensity than the line in front of them.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Work on improving intensity by being louder than the group that performed just before yuor group.
Step 5
  • For variation, you can also use other strikes, blocks, or kicks for this drill.
