Skill: Intensity
Drill: Blind Man Challenge
Equipment needed: One blindfold, two rings and one chair
Instructors needed: Two
Description: The students will practice intensity in their pitch by performing their Martial Arts moves with loud yells while a blindfolded instructor choose which student has the best pitch.
Teaching SKILLZ:
The instructor can ask the students to pick a partner in ten seconds. This gives them the chance to work with the people they want to work with, which can motivate them to win and compete against their friend. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
“AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student must hear the instructor call their number that they are assigned as well as the move that they need to do. This works on their ability to follow verbal commands. ”
Step 1
Pair your students up with a partner and have them sit directly across the mat from each other. Give each pair a number.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Set up a chair in the middle of the mat and a ring on each side of the chair. Have an instructor sit in the chair blindfolded.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When I call your number, you and your partner will each stand in the ring (on your side).
  • I will call out a variety of Martial Arts moves and you must perform the moves while yelling like a Black Belt.
  • The instructor will select the student with the best pitch, which means the person that has the best yell, not necessarily the loudest yell.
  • The person with the best pitch wins a point for their team.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Work on the intensity and overall pitch of your yell so it is the “best” yell, not the loudest yell
Step 5
  • The first team to 10 points is the winner.
