Skill: Intensity
Drill: High / Low
Equipment needed: Two punching mitts per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their INTENSITY by learning how to turn it on and off.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say “high” with a low intensity voice, and say “low” with a high intensity voice. This will enhance their auditory processing skills as they have to listen for the whole word, and not just the sounds in the word.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student must hear the instructor say “High” or “Low”, and do their technique according to what the instructor says. This works on their ability to follow verbal commands and analyze what is being heard.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Each instructor will need 2 mitts.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will alternate the pads for kicks and punches.
  • Then he will say “High” or “Low”
  • High = High intensity, hit hard
  • Low = Low intensity, hit soft
  • Try to use good technique on both intensity levels.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Yell with your very best intensity on “high.”
  • Keep your hands up.
  • Hit hard or soft but still have good technique.
  • Yell soft or yell loud, no screams or whispers.
  • Always have an intense face to match.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 3 turns.
