Skill: Intensity
Drill: Burn Out
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Several to monitor
Description: In this drill the students will apply intensity to their exercises. In this drill the students will work as a team to have more intensity in their exercises.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say things like “ghost” and “gogurt” in order to try and trick the students. This will enhance their auditory processing skills as they have to listen for the whole word, and not just the sounds in the word.
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The students must be able to do their exercise quickly, although they must also have good technique. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, the distraction being other people being ahead of them or their body getting tired.
Step 1
Divide your class into two groups and have them line up on opposite ends of the training mat.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Mark a line in the middle for the teams to perform each exercise.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When I say “go” your team will race to the middle and perform ten push-ups with intensity and then race back to your starting point.
  • We will pick which team had more intensity in their exercises.
  • We will repeat the process with jumping jacks, squat touches, and sit-ups. We will do three rounds of each.
  • The team with the most points at the end of the drill is the winner.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Applying intensity to the various drills and exercises
Step 5
  • The instructor will choose which team is the best on each round for a healthy competition.
