Skill: Intensity
Drill: Knock Over
Equipment needed: Two large kicking shields per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will build intensity in their legs by kicking the target and trying to knock the instructor off the kicking shield.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student is able to knock the instructor over, then the instructor will do five pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to see the appropriate spot on the pad to kick, and kick with the proper part of the foot. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as they have to find the middle of the pad and kick that spot, instead of kicking the sides of the pad or the instructor.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The instructor for each line will stand on a large kicking shield while holding a kicking shield as shown in the picture.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The student will have three chances to front kick the shield and knock the instructor over.
  • If the instructor falls off the shield, the instructor will do 5 push-ups.
  • You can add variety by changing the kick to a side kick, round kick, etc.
  • You can make the drill fun by having the student and instructor switch roles.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Working on intensity of kicks to knock the instructor of the pad they are standing on.
Step 5
  • Continue the drill until each student has a turn.
