Skill: Intensity
Drill: Drop the Cone
Equipment needed: 1 wavemaster, 1 cone per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their INTENSITY in this drill by racing to the pad and kick as hard as they can.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say things like “ghost” and “gogurt” in order to try and trick the students. This will enhance their auditory processing skills as they have to listen for the whole word, and not just the sounds in the word.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – When the student hears the instructor say “go” they must run down as quick as they can and knock the cone off the pad, and run back to their line. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, you will need a wavemaster with a cone on top.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” the first person in line will race to the wavemaster and round kick the pad until the cone falls off.
  • Then run back to the line and tag the next person in line.
  • Continue until the whole line has gone.
  • The first line to finish is the winner.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Yell loud to add more power.
  • Chamber high and kick strong.
  • Keep kicking until it falls off.
  • Run with great intensity.
Step 5
  • Continue for three rounds.
