Skill: Intensity
Drill: Torpedo Front Kicks
Equipment needed: 1 Clapper Pad Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice INTENSITY by demonstrating their ability to show good technique and give their best even when they start to get sore or tired.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – Each time the student hits the pad, the instructor can have the students name something from an age-appropriate category, like colors or superheroes. This will engage their left and right hemispheres of the brain and allow the students to be more engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The student must be able to jump and kick without losing power. This works on their ability to complete a task despite distraction, the distraction being their legs getting tired since they are jumping and kicking, which is a high intensity leg motion.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first student will squat down as low as possible, like a squat jump.
  • They must then jump as high as they can and do a front kick.
  • They will do these 10 times as fast as possible without losing technique or power.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your hands up so that you look strong as you kick.
  • Squat low so that you get a great workout.
  • Jump as high as you can to show how awesome you are!
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 – 3 turns.
