Skill: Intensity
Drill: 1-100
Equipment needed: 1 Kicking Shield per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good INTENSITY by demonstrating their ability to do multiple punches at varying speeds without losing power or technique in their strikes.
Teaching SKILLZ:
UP THE REP – The students can start off with sloppy punches, and work their way up to having strong, fast punches. This will help them practice to get better, and learn the difference between sloppy and good technique.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The students must remember how fast they were just going, and slowly increase their speed depending on the number the instructor says. This works on their ability to hold onto information while performing a task, as they must remember what level they are on and how fast they are going, so that they can slowly increase their speed.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students sitting with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in each line will stand up and face the instructor.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the students will start punching the pad at a slow pace.
  • After a few seconds the instructor will yell out “10” which signals to the student to go faster.
  • The instructor will keep counting by intervals of 10 until they reach 100.
  • On every count the instructor should see and feel a difference in the punches.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your hands up as you punch.
  • Keep your eyes forward as you strike.
  • Move forward as you punch harder and faster.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
