Skill: CATCHING
Drill: Kick Ball
Equipment needed: 1 Dodgeball per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice CATCHING by demonstrating their ability to wait their turn as well as working with a partner to catch the ball.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can have the students try to finish catching the ball around the circle under a certain time limit; The first round having no time limit, the second having ten seconds to finish, and the third round having eight seconds to finish, depending on how big the class is.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The students have to throw the ball and catch it, and complete two kicks when they catch the ball. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities and make sense of what they see, since they have to throw and catch the ball to someone next to them, and they have to judge the distance between them so they know how hard they need to throw.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have each team make a circle.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will pass the ball to the the students on the left or right.
  • When the student has the ball they will do 2 front kicks and pass the ball in the same direction.
  • This will continue until the ball gets all the way back to the instructor.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Eyes on the ball.
  • Control your throw don’t throw to hard.
  • Hug the ball tight so you don’t drop it.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
