Skill: CATCHING
Drill: Collect the Candy
Equipment needed: 3 Paper Balls & 1 Cone per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice CATCHING by demonstrating their ability to catch multiple small objects. This will challenge them mentally by requiring them to use an object besides their hands to catch the small balls.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student does not drop any of the balls, then the instructor will do five pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to see the small ball in the air, and catch it with the cone in their hands. This works on their ability to process visual activity by tracking the ball in the air and catching it with something other than their hands.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have an instructor in front of each student at least 3 steps away.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and face the instructor.
  • The instructor will toss the 1st ball and the student must move the opening of the cone to catch the ball.
  • The student must catch all 3 balls without losing any of the balls from previous catches.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your eyes on the ball.
  • Don’t stand still, make sure you’re moving around.
  • Stay controlled as you move so you don’t lose any of the balls.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
