Skill: CATCHING
Drill: Castle Stacker
Equipment needed: 3 blocks / 1 ring per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice CATCHING by catching awkwardly shaped blocks without dropping any, if they can catch all 3 blocks then you can stack them up to make a castle. This will challenge them physically by making them should adjust to catching something that is weirdly shaped.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – The instructor can have the students say the color of the block that they are catching before they catch it. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of their brain, and keep the students engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The students must be able to catch the blocks and stack them to make a castle. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities, as they must track the moving blocks in the air and catch them while staying in the ring.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line have a ring 6ft in-front of the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first student will stand up and run to the ring and face the instructor.
  • The instructor will then throw the block 1 after the other and the students will catch them.
  • At the end of 3 they should have a neat stack to bring back to the instructor.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your stack neat.
  • Keep your eyes on the block.
