Skill: CATCHING
Drill: Kick & Catch
Equipment needed: 1 clapper pad/1 dodgeball per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good CATCHING by demonstrating their ability to react quickly as they are kicking the clapper target because they will have the ball throw to them at random times.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student does not catch the ball, then they have three squat jumps. If the student is able to catch the ball every time during their turn, then the instructor will have three squat jumps.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must be able to hear the instructor say “go”, stop kicking the pad and catch the ball. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, since they have to hear a verbal cue, look up quickly to see the ball in the air, and catch it.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students sitting with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in line will stand up and face the instructor.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the students will start kicking the target with front kicks.
  • When the instructor says ”GO” for a second time they will throw the ball to the students who will catch it.
  • The students will do this 2-3 times before heading to the end of the line.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Strong kicks when you hit the pad.
  • Eyes open so you can see the ball.
  • Arms ready to catch the ball at all times.
Step 5
