Drill:
Hold the Line
Equipment needed:
1 belt/rope, 3 small targets per line
Instructors needed:
1 per Line
Description:
In this drill we will work on developing our CATCHING skill by being able to see the target, and moving to catch it quickly.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – When the student comes up, if they can get all the pads without them crossing the line, the instructor will do 5 pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student has to be able to track where the pad is, and catch it before it crosses over the line.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Lay down the belt/rope in front of each line – Have each instructor stand a few feet away from the line
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
Have the first student in each line stand in front of the rope/belt
The instructor will gently throw the first target in a catchable manner
The student must move to catch the pad and not let it pass the line on th ground.
Repeat with the other two pads
Your goal is to catch 3 pads in a row
Step 4 – Takeaways:
Try not to pass the line when going after the pad
Keep your eyes on the pads
Move fast to grab each pad
Step 5
Continue until everyone gets 2-3 turns.
