Skill: CATCHING
Drill: Stack It
Equipment needed: 3 Blocks per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice CATCHING by demonstrating their ability to catch awkwardly shaped objects without dropping them.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – At the end of their turn, the student can choose their favorite karate move to knock the tower down. They will be more motivated to do the activity because they had the power of choosing their favorite karate move to knock the tower down.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to track the block that comes towards them and catch it at the right time so they do not drop it. They also must stack the block on top of the tower, making sure that it is not crooked so the tower does not fall. This works on their ability to process visual activity.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the 1st student stand up and face the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will throw the student 1 block if they catch it then they will put the block down by their side.
  • The students will do the same thing on the 2nd block but the will stack it on top of the 1st.
  • Once they have all 3 blocks stacked the student is allowed to knock the pads down. (W/ a karate move)
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your arms open so the block has room.
  • Keep your eyes on the block.
  • Hug the block so you don’t drop it.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
