Equipment needed:
One ball and slammer pad per line
Instructors needed:
One per line
Description:
The instructor will toss a ball across and the student must catch the ball while standing on a pad. This will help the students build control, gross motor skills, and spatial awareness.
Teaching SKILLZ: CHOICES
The instructor can ask the student how far away they want the instructor to be: close, kind of far, or really far. This will empower the students since they have a choice in the activity, and it will allow the students to choose their own difficulty.
Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING
The students must be able to catch and throw a ball with the instructor while standing on a pad. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities, as they have to judge the distance between the instructor and themselves so they know how hard they need to throw, as well as seeing the moving ball and catching it.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2
For each line you will need a ball and a slammer pad that is set approximately 6’ away.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
You are going to stand on the slammer pad.
I am going to toss a ball to you.
You will catch the ball 3 times.
Let’s see how many tosses it takes for you to catch the ball three times.
Step 4
Continue until each student has three turns.
Step 5
On each round, you can move the target a little further away.
