Skill: CATCHING
Drill: Jump & Catch
Equipment needed: 1 dodgeball/1 small tower per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice having good CATCHING by demonstrating their to jump on to a pad and catch a ball without falling off of the pad.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – Instead of counting normally, the instructor can count by colors, animals, or another age-appropriate category in order to connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain and keep the students engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to catch the ball being thrown, while jumping onto the pad. This works on their ability to do more than one thing at one time.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the student standing in front of the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor counts the student will jump on the pad as the instructor tosses the ball.
  • The student will have to then throw the ball back to the instructor, and hop down.
  • They will repeat this until they hit 3 catches.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your eyes open as you play.
  • Keep your arms out.
  • Hold the ball a hug as it lands in your arms.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2 rounds
