Drill: Block the Blocks
Equipment needed: Four foam blocks per group.
Instructors needed: One per group
Description: The students will block foam blocks that are thrown towards their head.
Teaching SKILLZ: EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION
  • Making it a fun competition to see who can block the most builds and that person gets to pick the exercises that the instructor has to do 5 times.
Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING
  • Students must quickly see and respond to the direction of each foam block in order to block it, helping improve their ability to react to fast-moving visual stimuli.
Step 1
  • Divide your students into groups with no more than four students per group.
Step 2
  • For each group, you will need four foam blocks.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When it is your turn, you will stand four steps away from me.
  • I will toss four foam blocks towards your head.
  • You must block each foam block without getting hit in the head.
  • Make sure you keep your fists tight.
  • Make sure you pull your other arm to your side as you block.
Step 4
  • Continue until each student has two turns.
Step 5
  • On the second turn, you can make it a competition to see who can block the most foam blocks in a row.
