Skill: Blocking
Drill: Squeak It
Equipment needed: 1 Squeaky Thing per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will demonstrate BLOCKING by hitting with enough power and accuracy to make the squeaky thing squeak!
Teaching SKILLZ:
UP THE REP – The instructor can have the students try to squeak the squeaker quietly on the first block, and slowly get louder and louder until they use their full power on their last block. This will help the students practice to get better.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The students must be able to see the squeaker, and determine how hard and fast they need to block in order to make the pad squeak. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities, as they have to block the small target with power.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the instructor holding the squeaky thing.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in line will demonstrate a high block trying to hit the squeaky thing.
  • The student will demonstrate 5 high blocks their goal is to make the pad squeak 5 times.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Look at the dot when BLOCKING
