Skill: BLOCKING
Drill: Freeze the Cone
Equipment needed: 1 small cone per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice BLOCKING by demonstrating their ability to hold a high block in the proper position. This will challenge the students physically by requiring them to hold their arm high for an extended period of time.
Teaching SKILLZ:
INTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student can hold the pad for five seconds, they will make their instructors proud. If they can hold the pad for seven seconds, they will make their parents proud. If they can hold the pad for ten seconds, they will make the world proud.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – The student must be able to focus on keeping their arm up for the full duration without dropping the pad.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the instructor facing each line with their pad.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and face the instructor.
  • The student will demonstrate their best high block trying their best to keep their arm frozen.
  • The instructor will then place the small pad on their arm and the student will try to hold the pad for 5 seconds without letting it fall.
  • If the student can do 5 seconds on round 2 have them try 10!
Step 4 – Takeaways:
