Skill: BLOCKING
Drill: Move the Noodle
Equipment needed: 1 Noodle Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will demonstrate their BLOCKING by trying to move a noodle that is in front of them to the side of their body. This will challenge them physically by requiring them to move their arms from 1 side of their body to the other.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – On the second round, the instructor can count by colors, animals, or another age-appropriate category. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of their brain, and keep the students engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must see the noodle in front of them, and push sideways with their block in order to get the noodle out of the way. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities, as they have to make sure their arm goes in a sideways motion and not another motion in order to knock the noodle out of the way.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the instructor holding a noodle.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in line will stand up and face the instructor.
  • The instructor will hold th noodle out towards the students chest.
  • The student will then demonstrate a middle block moving the noodle to one side of their body.
  • They will do this 5 time alternating arms before going to the end of the line.
  • On round 2 see if they can go to 10 blocks.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Remember to get your arm under the noodle
  • Eyes open and look forward the whole time
  • Block fast to move the noodle out of the way
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has multiple turns.
