Skill: BLOCKING
Drill: High Block Tag
Equipment needed: One foam sword per instructor
Instructors needed: One instructor per four students
Description: In this drill the students will practice blocking. Blocking builds hand-eye-coordination along with important sensory needs.
Teaching SKILLZ: TRICKERY
  • Students don’t know exactly when or where the foam block will be thrown, so they must stay alert and react quickly, turning listening and visual attention into fun surprises. This builds anticipation and reward-based responses, especially when they succeed.
Brain SKILLZ: VISUAL PROCESSING
  • Students must track the movement of each foam block and respond quickly and accurately. This helps them interpret fast-moving visual information and adjust their motor responses accordingly.
Step 1
  • Give each instructor a foam sword.
Step 2 – Explain the Rules:
  • When I say go you will run around the mat.
  • We will try and hit you in the head with the foam swords and you will try and block.
  • If you get hit in the head, then you must run to the side and do 5 squat jumps before you come back in.
Step 3
  • Continue for at least 2-minutes of tag.
Step 4
  • You can make it fun by switching roles with the students.
