Skill: BLOCKING
Drill: Block Smash
Equipment needed: 2 different colored blocks/ 1-2 kicking shields per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice having good BLOCKING by demonstrating their ability to do alternating low blocks hitting a target. This will challenge them physically by requiring them to do a difficult block and still hit the target.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say a color, and then point at a different direction in order to further test their auditory processing and visual processing.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The students must be able to hear the instructor call out a color, and then block the correct block. This works on their ability to perform a task quickly and accurately, as they have to hear the instructor call a color, and block the correct color that they see.
Step 1
Have students get into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The Student will stand in between both blocks.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor calls one color the student must do a low block and hit the block with the appropriate hand.
  • If the student does it correct, then the instructor can call out the other block for the student to strike.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Listen so you know which side to hit.
  • Keep your hands closed to have a strong block.
  • Use your eyes to see the block your hitting.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
