Drill: Count the Blocks
Equipment needed: 4 colored spots
Instructors needed: One per group
Description: The students will practice how to block by hopping to each spot progressively performing more and more blocks. This drill will also reinforce multitasking and counting skills as they will have to count and block at the same time.
Teaching SKILLZ:
UP THE REP – Challenge the student to block stronger on each rep.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – The student must stay engaged through each rep while also remembering to increase reps on each spot.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an Instructor and 4 colored spots, preferably with numbers.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You will hop onto the first spot and count out 1 block.
  • Then hop to the next spot and count out 2 blocks.
  • Continue until you reach the fourth spot.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your feet together.
  • Keep your hands by your side.
  • Block fast.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least three turns.
