Drill: Jumping Blocks
Equipment needed: 1 Slammer pad / Foam noodle per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice BLOCKING by demonstrating their ability to multiple jumps and blocks. This will challenge the students physically by challenging the strength of their legs.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – See which student can complete their turn the fastest.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The student must be able to remember the proper order of the commands in this drill. They have to jump on the pad, make sure they are using their other hand every time, block the noodle, and jump down.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the slammer pad with the instructor in-front.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will stand up and face the instructor.
  • When the instructor counts the student will jump on top of the slammer pad and demonstrate 1 high block.
  • The student will then jump off and repeat this process alternating arms each jump.
  • Continue until the student reaches 10 blocks.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Knees up so you can land on the pad.
  • Have a strong block!
  • Yell loud to be stronger.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student gets 2 turns.
