Skill: BLOCKING
Drill: Lift Off
Equipment needed: 1 Soft Noodle Per Line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will build good BLOCKING skills by learning the proper motion for a high block by using their forearm to lift the noodle off their nose and above their heads.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – On the second round, the instructor can count by colors, animals, or another age-appropriate category. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of their brain, and keep the students engaged in the activity.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must see the noodle on their nose, and lift upwards with their block in order to get the noodle out of the way. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities, as they have to make sure their arm goes in an upward motion and not a sideways motion in order to knock the noodle out of the way.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need one instructor with a noodle.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will hold the noodle on your nose.
  • You must hold your hands by your side to chamber for your block.
  • Then raise one arm in front of your face to lift the noodle over your head.
  • Each ninja will do this 10 times.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Make sure you are raising your arm up and not to the side.
  • Keep both eyes open so that you can see what you’re doing.
  • Try to remember to keep your other arm by your side.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has three turns.
