Drill: Squish the Head, Squish the Body
Equipment needed: Two mitts per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will practice blocking their head and their body. Blocking builds hand-eye-coordination along with important sensory needs.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can ask if the students want to go slow, medium, fast, or ninja fast. This will allow the students to choose their own difficulty that they are comfortable with. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The students must be able to see and hear the instructor call out “head” or “body”, and block appropriately without getting hit. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately.
Step 1
Divide your students into even lines.

Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • I will try and squish your head and your body with my mitts as you block me.
  • Try lot to let my mitts touch your head or your body as you block.
  • After you block the mitts you will do four punches on the mitts.
  • You can make it fun by switching roles and having them try and squish your head and body.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Work on the speed of the blocks.
  • Focus on punches after the blocks.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least three turns.
