Skill: THINKING
Drill: Tower
Equipment needed: Four blocks per group
Instructors needed: Multiple to Monitor
Description: The students will work on their THINKING skills by trying to build a tower.
Step 1
Give each guardian four blocks and spread out around the mat.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Guardians will place one block on the ground, and then student will take a block and place it on top of the other block.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • They will continue to go back and forth until they have used all the blocks and built their tower.
  • When the tower is built, the student will knock it over.
  • Then allow the student to stack all four blocks on his or her own, and again, when the tower is built, the student will knock it over.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Encourage your student to stack the block correctly, but you may need to adjust it so that they don’t fall.
  • Try to get your student to be gentle when stacking the blocks.
  • Encourage the student to not knock over the tower until all of the blocks are stacked, but anticipate that they may knock the tower over early because of impulse.
Step 5
  • Continue as many times as you can until time is called (approximately 2-minutes).
