Drill: Around the Box
Equipment needed: 1 small pad per group
Instructors needed: 1 per group
Description: Students will demonstrate TEAMWORK by hitting a small target around a box, passing the pad from teammate to teammate using punches!
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can have the students race as a team to see if they can punch the pad around the circle under a certain time limit; the first round having ten seconds, the second having eight seconds, and the third round having seven seconds, depending on how big the class is.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to punch the pad to another student, and that student has to catch it. This works on their ability to participate in visual activities, as they have to spot the middle of the pad, punch it correctly, and if they are catching the pad they must keep their eyes on the pad so they can catch it.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have each group form a box
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in each group will aim a small pad towards their teammate!
  • They will have to punch it to the 1st teammate
  • The students will continue punching the pad around the circle, once the pad gets back to the 1st person the game is over.
  • The 1st group to get the pad around the box earns 1 point.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Hold the pad out before you punch it
  • Aim for the middle of your pad
  • Stand strong and ready to catch
Step 5
  • Continue so that each team has multiple rounds.
