Drill: Balance the Ball
Equipment needed: 1 Clapper Pad/1 Small Square Pad
Instructors needed: Multiple to Monitor
Description: The students will practice TEAMWORK by to be able to balance a ball on a kicking shield and then with a partner try to move the ball across the mat without letting it fall.
  • The instructor will prompt the students and let them know that if their team has the most points at the end they can choose an exercise for the other teams to do.
  • The students will work on staying focused with their teammates so that they can work together to move the ball safely.
Step 1
  • Have students form lines with their instructor
Step 2 – Explain the Rules:
  • The first 2 students in each line will stand up and hold a kicking shield between each other.
  • The instructor will then place a ball in between the students on the pad.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the students will try to work together and move the ball to point that was set by the instructor.
  • If the students drop the ball they must stop and try to reset their ball before continuing.
  • Once they get the ball to the point they will run back to the beginning of their line.
Step 3 – Takeaways:
  • Talk with your teammate so you don’t go to fast.
  • Go slow so you don’t drop the ball.
  • Keep the pad balanced so you don’t drop the ball.
Step 4
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
