Drill: Instructor Switch

Instructors needed: 1 Per Line
Description: The students will build their teamwork skills by calling out Martial Arts moves for the instructor to perform. This will help the students build confidence and good leadership skills.
Teaching SKILLZ: NEUROBICS
On the second turn, the instructor can have the students count by colors, animals, or another age-appropriate category. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of their brain, and keep the students engaged in the activity. This will also further test their long-term memory, as they must be able to recall things that belong to the category that was given.
Brain SKILLZ: LONG TERM MEMORY
The students must be able to lead the instructor through their martial arts moves. This works on their ability to recall information that they have learned in the past, as they must recall their martial arts move without help, and lead the instructor through them.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines.
Step 2 – Explain the Rules:
  • You will stand in the instructor spot and call out your favorite Martial Arts moves. Your goal is t be loud, be quick, and lead by good example.
Step 3 – Takeaways
  • Be louder than your instructor.
  • Show good technique in your moves.
  • Be fast and strong.
Step 4
  • Continue until every student has three turns.
Step 5
  • On the second turn, have the student lead you through six moves.
Step 6
  • On the third round, make it a competition to see which student is the best leader.
