Skill: Teamwork
Drill: Back and Forth 2
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will compete against another team to see which group is the loudest. This is a great drill to help your students perform at their best level.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can give the two teams silly names, like “hamburgers vs. Hotdogs” in order to motivate the students to win as a team.
Brain SKILLZ:
SPEED OF PROCESSING – The student must perform a move with strong technique while being as loud as they can. This works on their ability to complete a task quickly and accurately, as the student must see and hear how much intensity the other team has, and perform with more intensity than that.
Step 1
Divide your students into two groups and have them face each other.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have each group pick a team name to help build team spirit.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Call out a Martial Arts move, and then point to one of the teams to perform the move with their best team effort.
  • Next, point to the other team to do the same.
  • Continue to point back and forth with each team so that they each perform the move approximately four times each.
  • Pick the team that performed the best.
  • You can make it challenging by calling out combinations.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Pay attention to combinations
  • Try to beat the other team
  • Work together with your partners
Step 5
  • Repeat the drill with various Martial Arts moves.
