Skill: Teamwork
Drill: Hungry Hungry Ninjas
Equipment needed: Lots of dodgeballs or pads, 2 large buckets
Instructors needed: A few to monitor
Description: In this drill students will practice developing strong TEAMWORK by working together to gather as many dodgeballs as possible in the time given.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student accidentally grabs more than two dodgeballs on their turn, they must restart.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to find no more than two dodgeballs grouped together, and put the bucket over the dodgeballs to grab them. They will not be able to see the dodgeballs after they put the bucket over them, so the student has to make sure that they grab the correct amount initially.
Step 1
Divide your students into 2 lines (or 1 line per bucket)
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Spread the pads/balls all over the mat. Give the first person in line the bucket
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says go the first student will run out to the dodgeballs.
  • They will place the bucket over 1-2 (no more) of the balls and then slide the bucket back.
  • Then the next student will repeat this.
  • After 30sec the team that gathered the most balls wins.
  • If you lift up your bucket on the way back, grab more than 2 per turn, or a balls rolls out from your bucket you must start over.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Show good TEAMWORK by moving fast.
  • Cheer on your teammates.
  • Remember to follow the rules even if you’re super excited.
Step 5
  • Continue until you play 2-3 games.
