Drill: Pass the Punches
Equipment needed: 1 Slammer pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: : The students will practice TEAMWORK by demonstrate their ability to work as a team in a relay race style of drill. This game will challenge them physically and mentally as they must do fast punches but they also must wait for their partners to return fully to the team before leaving.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student does not wait for the high five, they have to run back and redo their turn.
Brain SKILLZ:
RESPONSE INHIBITION – The students must wait for the high five in order for them to start their turn. This means the students will have to control their impulse to run before they get the high five, and play the game fairly.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, you will need an Instructor with a cone and clapper pad.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st in line will stand up and face the instructor who is on the other side of the mat.
  • When the instructor says “GO” the student will run down to the instructor and do 10 punches hitting the slammer pad.
  • When they finish, they will run back to line and high 5 the next person in line.
  • The next student must wait for the high 5 or they must restart from the beginning if they leave to early.
  • The first team to get through each ninja and sit strong will earn a point, team with the most point wins.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • unch as hard as you can.
  • Don’t move before you get a high 5.
  • Keep moving as fast as you can so that you can win.
Step 5
  • Continue so that each student has at least 2-3 turns.
