Drill: Big Foot
Equipment needed: 1 Slammer Pad
Instructors needed: Several to monitor
Description: The students will work on their TEAMWORK by working together to move a slammer pad from one end of the mat to the other, without using their hands.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The instructor can see which team can sit down the strongest the fastest while being a good teammate each round. The team with the most points at the end wins.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to focus on how fast they are going and what they are doing, but also focus on what their partner is doing in order to successfully make it down the mat and back together quickly.
Step 1
Divide your students into pairs.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Put your arms around each other’s shoulder.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Put one foot in the slammer pad.
  • Walk from one end of the mat to another.
  • At the end, count out 4 kicks then run back.
  • If you step off the slammer pad, you and your partner must do 3 jumping jacks before you can continue.
  • The first team to finish scores a point for their team
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • The first team to finish scores a point for their team
  • Encourage your partner to do their best.
  • Share leadership. Take turns being in charge.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2 rounds. The team with the most points wins.
