Equipment needed:
An entire obstacle course. For example: 4 rings, 2 jumping bars, 4 slammer pads, 4 cones, 1 wave bag cushion
Instructors needed:
One instructor per course
Description:
In this drill the students are going to go through an entire obstacle course while working together.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The instructor can ask the students to pick a partner in ten seconds. This gives them the chance to work with the people they want to work with, which can motivate them to win with their friend even more. The choice in the activity will also empower the students, as they will feel more in control over what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The students must be able to go through the obstacle course with their partner. This works on their ability to focus on multiple things at one time, as the students have to make sure they can do the course while making sure they are going at a good speed for their partner, as well as communicate with them and make sure they’re not struggling.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Set up two identical obstacle courses: 4 rings to jump over, 2 bars to jump over, 4 slammer pads lined up to walk over, 4 cones to weave in and out of, 1 wave bag cushion as the finishing point
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
Pair each student with a partner and then divide the pairs into two teams.
Explain the course and tell the students that they will have to go through the entire course without letting go of their partner. Also explain that they will be racing another pair, which means they must work together, but quickly. If they let go of each other, then they must stop immediately and do 10 push-ups.
You can make it even more challenging by having three or four go at one time.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
Work together with a classmate to beat the other team
