Drill: Hot Potato
Equipment needed: 1 clapper pad per line
Instructors needed: 1 Per Group
Description: The students will practice TEAMWORK by demonstrating their ability to to work as a team to complete a circle of kicks before the other team can.
Teaching SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION
The instructor can have the students race as a team to see if they can pass the pad around the circle under a certain time limit; the first round having ten seconds, the second having eight seconds, and the third round having seven seconds, depending on how big the class is.
Brain SKILLZ: SPEED OF PROCESSING
The students need to work as a team to pass the pad and kick around the circle. This works on their ability to finish a task quickly and accurately, as the students need to kick the pad twice, grab the pad, and hold it for another student quickly in order to finish in time.
Step 1
Divide your students into groups.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill
Have your students form 2 big circles.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The clapper pad will start with one person in the the circle.
  • When the instructor say “GO” the student with the pad will turn to the left student who will do 2 kicks.
  • Once that student is done kicking the pad holder will give them the pad for the next person to kick.
  • This trend will continue until the does their kicks then the 1st team sitting strong wins a point.
Step 4 – Takeaways
  • Move fast to help your team win.
  • Hold the pad correct do your friends can kick it.
  • Pay attention so you know when it is your turn to kick.
Step 5
  • Continue until each group has 3 turns.
