Drill: Back and Forth
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 instructor per line
Description: In this drill the students are going to practice their kicks back and forth while learning how to take turns quickly.
Teaching SKILLZ: INTRINSIC MOTIVATION
The instructor can explain that if the students want to make their instructors and parents proud, they can count as strong as they can the whole time.
Brain SKILLZ: LONG TERM MEMORY
The student must be able to remember the steps involved in counting for each other, as well as remembering to take turns. They also have to remember to bow, high five and say good job.
Step 1
Divide your students into two groups and have them face each other.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have each group pick a team name to help build team spirit.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Divide your students into two groups and have them face each other.
 
  • Next, point to the other team to do the same.
 
  • Continue to point back and forth with each team so that they each perform the move approximately four times each.
 
  • Pick the team that performed the best.
 
  • Repeat the drill with various Martial Arts moves.
 
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Practice being loud with your teammates
 
  • Displaying your best effort

  • You can make it challenging by calling out combinations.
