Drill: Ninja Statues
Equipment needed: Multiple 3 Step blocks or kicking shields.
Instructors needed: Multiple to monitor
Description: The students will practice having good TEAMWORK by demonstrating their ability to work with a partner to help each other accomplish a challenge. This will challenge the students socially by requiring them to communicate and help their teammates as they play this game.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – The last team that remains will be the winners. The instructor can explain that they are looking for what team can have the best teamwork and sportsmanship, and can explain that it is important for the partners to compliment their hard work, especially when they get out.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The students must be able to listen for when the music stops, and quickly run towards the closest tower before another team can get there. This works on the ability to respond to audio cues.
Step 1
Have students divide into lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
All the students will have a partner.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the music is on, all the students and their partners will be running on the outside of the mat.
  • When the music stops, the students must quickly run and get themselves and their partner on to one of the “towers”.
  • The student’s must work with their partner to get on to the towers the last team on a tower is out.
  • The instructor will then take away one tower and start the music again.
  • This process will continue until there is only one partnership that will remain.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Hold on to your partner if you let go the you’re out.
  • Take your time and be safe when getting on the pads.
  • Work together to be a good teammate and possibly win.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 turns.
