Drill: Crab Legs
Equipment needed: 1 pole / line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their TEAMWORK by working together to move a pole across the mat, without using their hands.
Teaching SKILLZ:
SKILLZ: HEALTHY COMPETITION – The student who gets back to their line first while being a good teammate gets a point for their team. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Brain SKILLZ:
DIVIDED ATTENTION – The student must be able to crab crawl down the mat, while keeping their stomach high enough to where the bar does not fall down. They also must do four kicks without dropping the bar, and then they must run back. The student also must focus on how fast their partner is going, so they do not go too fast or too slow.
Step 1
Divide your students into pairs.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Sit next to your partner with a pole and get ready to move without the use of your hands.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Sit close to your partner and put the pole across your lap.
  • Crab crawl to the middle of the mat without dropping the pole.
  • At the end, count out 4 kicks then run back.
  • If you have to adjust the pole, you must stop moving to do it.
  • The first team to finish scores a point for their team
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Talk to your partner through the drill, be able to work together
  • Encourage your partner to do their best.
  • Share leadership. Take turns being in charge.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2 rounds. The team with the most points wins.
