Drill: Watch Me
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will practice having good OBSERVING by demonstrating their ability to watch the instructor as they do rapid fire kicks, the student must count the kicks of the instructor. This will challenge them mentally by requiring them to watch the instructor and must quickly be able to keep track of numbers.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The 1st student from each line will stand up and face the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will say “GO” and then they will start to do alternating front kicks in the air.
  • The student must watch the instructor as they kick and must keep track of how many kicks the instructor is doing.
  • The instructor and student will both count the kicks in their heads, at the end of 10 seconds the instructor and student will compare totals.
  • If the totals are the same, then the student earns one point for their team.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Eyes on the instructor so you can count the kicks
  • Try not to move as you watch the instructor
  • Keep track of all the instructor’s kicks
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 turns.
