Drill: Spear It
Equipment needed: 3 rings/line; Bo/Student
Instructors needed: 1 Per Line
Description: The students will improve their SHARPNESS in their forward spear strikes.
Step 1
  • Divide the students into even lines.  
Step 2 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student will chamber for a forward spear strike.
  • The instructor will throw the rings one at a time and the student will try to catch each of them with their spear strike.
  • Between each strike, the students must reset their chamber.
Step 3 – Takeaways:
  • Start with a level chamber.
  • Stab on a level plane, not up or down.
  • Stick your ending; hold a level bo and front stance.
Step 4
  • Continue for 2-3 rounds.
