Drill: Role Reversal
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: In this drill the students will learn how to correct technique by giving the instructor three pointers on each Martial Arts move they perform.
Teaching SKILLZ:
CHOICES – The student can choose which move the instructor does. This will motivate the students and empower them, since they had a choice in the activity at hand and will feel more in control in what they are doing.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student has to see what is wrong with the move that the instructor is doing, and then tell the instructor what they are doing wrong. This works on their ability to make sense of what they see, as they have to know the moves and see what is wrong with the move specifically.
Step 1
Divide your students into several lines.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
 
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The student will call out a Martial Arts move that the instructor will perform with poor technique.
  • Next, the student will give the instructor three corrections to improve the instructor’s technique.
  • Continue until each student has at least two turns.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Learn toe recognize incorrect techniques and provide instructions on proper ones.
Step 5
  • Switch roles with the students and have the instructor call out random Martial Arts moves in which they will give the student three technical corrections.
