Skill: TECHNIQUE
Drill: Show the Chamber
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: One per line
Description: Students will work on their TECHNIQUE by being able to show off the correct chamber for their moves. This will challenge students intellectual stage of development by having students remember how to do the exact chamber for one of their techniques.
Teaching SKILLZ: Extrinsic Motivation
students stay focused because they know if they perform all three chambers correctly, the instructor has to do pushups (a fun external reward).
Brain SKILLZ: Attention Control
students must concentrate on remembering and demonstrating each chamber correctly without getting distracted.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2
  • Have one instructor at the front of each line.
Step 3 – Explain the rules:
  • One student will come up and the instructor will tell them a technique.
  • The student will then have to demonstrate the chamber of the technique and if it is a hand technique they will have to tell the instructor whether the technique comes from the bottom or top.
  • Each time the student is up they will be given three different techniques.
  • If the student is able to demonstrate all three chambers without messing up the instructor will have to do 3 pushups.
Step 4 – Takeaways
  • Think before you move. You want to give your instructors pushups so think about the chamber and what you have to do for it.
  • Have tight chambers. Make your chambers look as good as possible.
  • Try to do them quickly to show you know what you are doing.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 rounds.
