Skill: TECHNIQUE
Drill: Better With Every Rep
Equipment needed: One dice and kicking target per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will roll the dice to see how many reps they will do and then kick the target with the focus on getting better with every rep.
Teaching SKILLZ:
NEUROBICS – The instructor can have the students say names of colors, superheroes, movies, foods, or things belonging to another age-appropriate category every time they kick. This will connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain, and keep the students engaged as well.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The students must be able to remember to get better with every rep. This works on their ability to hold onto information while performing a task, as they have to remember the level of technique they had on their previous kick, and find a way to make it a little better on their next kick.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an instructor to hold a kicking target and a dice. If you only have one dice, then you can roll the dice for all of the lines at one time.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • You will roll the dice to see how many kicks you will do.
  • Once you know how many reps you will do, you will kick the pad alternating legs up to the number on the dice.
  • Your goal is to get better with every rep so that your last kick is that many times better than your first kick.
  • You can add variety with different kicks, strikes, or combinations.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Work on quickly recalling information
  • Work on improving after each techqnique
  • Work on improving both sides when performing techniuqes
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least two turns.
