Skill: Technique
Drill: Quick Fire
Equipment needed: Wave bag cushion, or similar stand, a block, and two small square targets
Instructors needed: Four
Description: In this drill the students will practice their technique in their aim. The students will compete in a fun quick fire challenge. This is a great drill for building aim in their punches.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – If the student misses the cone on their turn, then they have five pushups. If the student is able to hit the cone, then the instructor will have five pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must see where the cone is, and hit the pad in the correct spot with the correct amount of power in order to hit the cone. This works on the ability to participate in visual activities and make sense of what they see, as the students have to estimate how much power they need to hit the pad into the cone, as well as where to hit the pad for it to go in a straight line.
Step 1
“Set up 4 stations with a block and small targets. Have one student stand in front of each station. ”
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line, you will need an instructor holding the small square targets approximately 3 feet away from the block.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • When the instructor says “go” the student will have two shots to punch the target and knock the block off its station.
  • The first student to do so is the winner.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Learn to quickly aim your punches.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least three turns.
