Skill: Technique
Drill: Freeze Frame
Equipment needed: 2 Slammer Pads
Instructors needed: 1 to judge
Description: The students will work on their TECHNIQUE by holding their block, strike, kick or stance while balancing on a slammer pad.
Teaching SKILLZ:
TRICKERY – The instructor can say “go” instead of a move, to try and trick the students. This will help the students analyze what is being said, instead of instinctively running when they hear “go”.
Brain SKILLZ:
AUDITORY PROCESSING – The student must be able to hear the instructor say a move, and run down to do the correct technique. This works on their ability to follow verbal commands, as they have to connect what they hear to the moves that they know.
Step 1
Divide your students into pairs.
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students line up next to their partner.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will name a block, strike kick, or stance.
  • The first partnership will step on the pad and hold their correct move.
  • The first person to hold the correct move with proper TECHNIQUE scores a point.
  • If you fall off the pad, do the wrong move or lose form, your partner takes the point.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Demonstrate proper chambers
  • Stick your moves
  • Make sure your eyes follow your moves, not always looking at your partner
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2-3 turns.
