Skill: TECHNIQUE
Drill: Best of the Best
Equipment needed: None
Instructors needed: Several to monitor
Description: The students will work on their TECHNIQUE by performing a combination with their best technique through their blocks, strikes, kicks and stances.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – The team with the most points at the end of the game can pick an exercise for the rest of the class to do, not exceeding five reps.
Brain SKILLZ:
WORKING MEMORY – The students must be able to complete the combination correctly while making sure that they have good technique in order to score the point for their team. This works on their ability to hold onto information while performing a task, as they have to remember the correct combination that the instructor gives them.
Step 1
Divide your students into even lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Place 4 rings in front of each line at the middle of the mat.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The instructor will lead the groups through a combo, 3 times.
  • The students will perform the combo with the instructor, paying attention to chambers and body positioning.
  • The groups will perform the combo one at a time.
  • Only clean switches (feet do not hit the ring) can be counted.
  • Whichever group can demonstrate the correct combination with the best overall technique scores a point for their team.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Demonstrate your chambers through each combo.
  • Demonstrate proper breathing with each combo.
  • Stick your final move without having to adjust your feet.
Step 5
  • Continue for 2-3 rounds changing the combination each round.
