Drill: Perfect Practice
Equipment needed: 1 kicking shield per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: Students will practice having good TECHNIQUE by demonstrating their ability to remember designated moves by their instructor they will have to remember the combos that are called out by the instructor.
Teaching SKILLZ:
UP THE REP – The instructor can explain that the first move should have poor technique, the second move should have okay technique, and the last move should have the best technique that they can have. This allows the students to start with their worst, and end with their best so they practice to get better.
WORKING MEMORY – The students must remember which numbers mean which technique, and when the instructor calls out a number, perform the correct techniques in the correct order. This works on their ability to hold onto information while they are completing a task.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
Have the students sitting with the instructor.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The 1st student in line will stand up and face the instructor.
  • The instructor will give the students moves that correlate to numbers.
  • 1.Front Hand Punch 2. Rear Hand Punch 3. Front Leg Front Kick 4. Rear Leg Front Kick
  • When the instructor calls out 3-4 different numbers the student must remember the order and demonstrate the move hitting the kicking shield.
  • Their goal is to show good technical speed as they work through their combinations.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Have good speed as you play.
  • Listen to the instructor so you know the number.
  • Hit hard as you play the game.
Step 5
  • Continue until each person has 2-3 turns.
