Drill: Batter Up
Equipment needed: A stack of foam blocks or similar targets per line
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will develop their balance by kicking blocks that are thrown in the air while keeping their leg up. This is great for muscular development, gross motor skill development, and foot-eye coordination.
Teaching SKILLZ:
HEALTHY COMPETITION – See which student can set a record for the school, or beat the previous record that another student holds.
Brain SKILLZ:
VISUAL PROCESSING – The student must be able to hit the flying objects out of the iar while keeping ther leg up. This works on their aility to process visual activies as they are tracking a moving object.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
For each line you will need an instructor and a stack of foam blocks or similar targets.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • Stand with one leg in the air.
  • I will toss a block in the air and you must try and kick it while keeping your leg up.
  • You will continue to kick the blocks as long as you do not put your foot down.
  • The goal is to try and kick all of the blocks without putting your foot down.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Strengthen legs
  • Focus on balance as you kick targets out of the air with one leg in the air
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has at least three turns.
