Skill: Balance
Drill: Battle Kicks
Equipment needed: 2 Clapper Pads
Instructors needed: 1 per Line
Description: The students will work on their BALANCE by battling their partner to see who can do the most kicks without putting their foot down.
Teaching SKILLZ:
EXTRINSIC MOTIVATION – The student who loses has to do five pushups. The student who wins is safe and does not have to do pushups.
Brain SKILLZ:
ATTENTION CONTROL – The students must be able to win against their partner by not letting their foot touch the ground first. This works on their ability to focus on a task for an extended period of time, as they must be able to hold their knee up high and do as many kicks as they can until the other person drops their foot.
Step 1
Divide your students into lines
Step 2 – Setting Up the Drill:
The students will stand side by side.
Step 3 – Explain the Rules:
  • The students will camber their knee and do as many kicks as they can.
  • First person to put their foot down loses.
Step 4 – Takeaways:
  • Keep your knee high.
  • Keep your head up.
  • Keep your leg strong so that you don’t wiggle.
Step 5
  • Continue until each student has 2 turns.
